Meet Dr. Walaa Almutawaa, PhD, R.Ac.

Dr. Walaa Almutawaa is the founder of Galaxy Healing, an integrative wellness practice built around a simple philosophy: meaningful healing begins by looking beyond individual symptoms and caring for the person as a whole—body, mind, and soul.
Walaa brings a unique combination of biomedical science, research, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and hands-on clinical practice to her work. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Calgary, where her research focused on mitochondrial biology and genetic disease. She also holds a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences from McMaster University, where her research involved neural stem cells and neuropharmacology. Her years in scientific research continue to shape her approach to wellness, bringing curiosity, critical thinking, attention to detail, and respect for evidence into her clinical practice.
Her professional journey eventually led her from the research laboratory toward more direct, patient-centred care. After completing extensive education and clinical training in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, Walaa became a Registered Acupuncturist in Nova Scotia. She has been in clinical practice since 2023 and takes an individualized approach to care, drawing from modalities such as acupuncture, cupping, myofascial Manual release , Gua Sha, moxibustion, auricular acupuncture, and facial and cosmetic acupuncture, according to each client's needs and treatment goals.
Her clinical interests include musculoskeletal and chronic pain, stress and relaxation, women's wellness, emotional well-being, and supporting individuals through periods of physical and emotional change. Walaa believes there is no single approach that is right for everyone. She takes time to understand each client's concerns, health history, lifestyle, and personal goals before developing an individualized treatment plan.
Alongside her clinical practice, Walaa is actively involved in education, and clinical training. She serves as a Student Clinic Manager and Course Instructor at the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (CCATCM), supporting students as they develop their knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills. Her teaching experience also extends to the University of Calgary, and her professional background includes scientific research, laboratory techniques teaching, and community health education.
Through Galaxy Healing, Walaa aims to create a welcoming space where her scientific background and complementary approaches can coexist thoughtfully. Her goal is not to replace appropriate medical care, but to provide an additional layer of individualized support that helps clients feel heard, understood, and actively involved in their own wellness journey.
Walaa is also passionate about health education and community outreach. As a bilingual practitioner, she provides education in both English and Arabic and enjoys translating complex scientific and health concepts into information that is accessible, practical, and meaningful to the communities she serves.
At the heart of Walaa's work is a belief that healthcare should see the person behind the symptoms. Whether she is treating a client, teaching a student, mentoring a future practitioner, or sharing health education with her community, her approach remains centered on compassionate care, thoughtful practice, and empowering people to become active participants in their own well-being.
